Today was the Ocean County Middle School X-C Championships at Ocean County Park in Lakewood. I really have difficulty shooting X-C because, for the purposes of my paper, I need to get the winners of the races, which means not straying too far from the finish line. I can't wander into the woods on the course to find the right spot. So most of my images end up looking like this:
Pretty simple, one runner, usually the winner or second place finisher, a few hundred feet from the finish line. Exactly what the sports editors want, but boring as hell. Today, the starting line and finish line were within a realistic walking distance of one another, so I shot the starts of the races as well. This gave me a little more opportunity for creativity, as it's not just one runner all by him/herself, but a mob of 30 or 40 or more kids all moving at once. I decided to try and capture this movement with a slow shutter speed, and this is what that looked like:
Tomorrow I'm shooting another football video. Hopefully it won't be raining too hard.
